If you bought a smartphone in the last year, you may have noticed that once the cold superdevice overwhelmed.

There is a reason. "Android Law"

Smartphones are constantly outdueling each other in terms of performance, and come to market at breakneck speed.

For example, if you've got a Motorola (MMI), Droid when they went on sale in November 2009, you were the best Android device on the market. But then two times faster than Nexus went on sale in January 2010. Then HTC Droid Incredible was launched in April. Then in June Evo 4G Droid Incredible shame. Samsung S Galaxy came later that month. Then Nexus S ... You get the point.

The average time for the smart phone market is now only six of the nine months, according to HTC. But it is not always the case: the average shelf time was about three years before 2007, estimates HTC.

"It used to be that we have planned obsolescence phones," said Keith Novak, a spokesman for the HTC. "Now, consumers want more power and faster phones. Increased competition, there will be more important reason for a shorter life cycle."

Before Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) began the iPhone, the handset more sold on the market was the Motorola RAZR, which took this position for five years. Five years! Can you imagine someone buying an original iPhone today - a phone that began less than four years? This piece of junk did not even 3G. Or applications.
