Recently Major Earthquake Strikes Off Northern Coast Of Japan,- There has been a major earthquake occurred off the coast of northeastern Japan on Sunday, which triggered a tsunami that advisories were later canceled, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
Small tsunami was observed along the coast, measuring between 10 cm and 20, the JMA said.
There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage, according to Japanese news agency Kyodo.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 10:57 at the epicenter, about 130 miles east of Sendai.
Earthquake more than 20 miles in and had a magnitude 7.0, USGS said.
JMA measured the quake at magnitude 7.1.
Tsunami advisories published - and then canceled - for coastal areas Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima. Area among the hardest hit by this year's devastating earthquake and tsunami.
Officials in Ofunato, a city in Iwate, advised residents to evacuate.
JMA, immediately after the earthquake, the approximate height of a tsunami could reach half a meter (about 20 inches).
No abnormalities were reported directly to the nearby nuclear facility, according to Kyodo.
Three reactors at a nuclear power plant suffered Fukushima Daiichi leaks after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that struck northern Japan. The tsunami inundated the plant and knocked out the cooling system that stores the three operating reactors from overheating, causing the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl.
Tremors from the earthquake Sundays were much like Tokyo.
"It's just a constant of 9.0 aftershocks were destroyed," said Dale Grant, a geophysicist with the USGS, referring to the earthquake in March. "It's kind of aftershocks that may occur for some time."
Vast areas of the Pacific coast of northern Japan were overwhelmed by a devastating tsunami, enveloping entire cities following a massive earthquake off the coast of 8.9.

Meteorological Department has given its top-level alarm evacuation of the entire Japanese coast, the tsunami warning for up to six meters.

Cities, towns and farms around the city of Sendai in northern Japan are swallowed by the tsunami, the wave of four meters and flooded parts of the Pacific coast of Kamaishi.

Residents were ordered to run to higher ground and stay away from the coast that the tsunami may hit in several waves.

Japanese television aired footage of a wall of moving water-km wide of the way across the country, involving all in its path.

Several waves can be seen approaching the coast.

"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant from the coast within hours," the agency said.
